Stoned people have a high potential to be funny.
That’s why there are so many videos of stoners being stoners on Youtube.
It is also why most sitcoms on TV have at least one episode where a character gets high.
Unfortunately, these episodes often fall flat.
When done right, they are hilarious. But few shows do it right.
Today we are going to look at the ones that nail it.
Below are the funniest TV episodes with a cannabis theme. Have you watched any of them before?

- 2 Funniest TV Episodes Dealing With Marijuana: Final Thoughts
Funniest TV Episodes With A Cannabis Twist
Each of the following episodes deals with marijuana in some way and is hilarious while doing it. Of course, not all will be funny to everyone, since sense of humor can vary greatly.
For example, there is one show below that I absolutely can’t stand and find completely unfunny, but I included an episode from that show anyway, because I know many people do find it funny.
King Of The Hill – High Anxiety (Season 4, Episode 14)
This episode continues from the previous one, where Debbie was killed. The search for her killer is on and since Hank has smoked a marijuana joint, he is scared he might have murdered her under its influence. He does not admit the truth and that makes him the prime suspect.
We love King of the Hill for its subtle humor and the fact that it leaves it to the audience to judge the characters. It also provides an apt description of people from small-town Texas.
Arrested Development – Pier Pressure (Season 1, Episode 10)
Pier Pressure remains one of the best episodes of season one of Arrested Development. And perhaps the entire series. And that is saying something, since this show is the best comedy series ever, along with Seinfeld. The writer and producer of the show, Mitch Hurwitz, also calls it his all-time favorite.
The word โpierโ in the title of this episode is a play on the word โpeerโ, which is often used to describe the pressure kids feel to smoke marijuana. In this episode, Buster asks George Michael to buy weed for him to help cure Lucille 2โs vertigo.
As a result, his dad feels George Michael is on drugs and attempts to teach him a lesson. It all goes down on a pier, where George Michael attempts to buy weed from his uncle Gob.
That 70’s Show – Garage Sale (Season 2, Episode 1)
The Formans organize a garage sale to make some extra money. Hyde has no items to sell, so he decides to bake pot brownies to sell. Red, Kitty, Midge, and Bob eat them, not knowing they are โAlice B. Toklas browniesโ.
The episode was featured at No. 20 on “Ms.Mojo” Top 20 Laugh-Out-Loud TV Sitcom Episodes (TV Episode 2023). As someone who finds this show to be one of the least funny series ever dubbed a “comedy”, I did not enjoy this episode at all. But if you like the show and its repetitive humor, you’re sure to love this episode, too.
American Dad – Jeff And The Dank Ass Weed Factory (Season 14, Episode 5)
In this episode, Jeff wins a contest to tour a medicinal cannabis factory. Stan wants to steal the factoryโs secrets so he convinces Jeff to take him along.
As they tour through the bizarre factory, the other contest winners are eliminated along the way. Once the factory owner discovers Stanโs identity, it is up to Jeff to get them both out safely.
The Office – Drug Testing (Season 2, Episode 20)
In this episode, Dwight finds half a joint in the parking lot and launches an investigation. He makes everyone undergo a drug test, although there are other company offices in the building. Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell) is the only one worried he wonโt pass the urine test, so he forces Dwight to give his urine instead.
The Boondocks – Mr. Medicinal (Season 3, Episode 12)
Following a medical checkup, the doctor warns Granddad to reduce his stress levels, failing which he could die. Unwilling to rely on medication, he takes Thugnificent’s advice and turns to marijuana.
Granddad soon discovers the amazing benefits of medicinal marijuana and becomes a calmer, more well-balanced person. Naturally, everyone suspects something is up.
Later, he promises never to smoke marijuana again but returns to Grantโs house, where he is given the Skywalker OG strain to smoke. “Skywalker” is a tribute to Grantโs voice actor, Mark Hamill.
Bob’s Burgers – Large Brother, Where Fart Thou? (Season 7, Episode 5)
Bob’s Burgers is a popular animated series known for its clever writing and heartwarming moments. It has quirky humor, relatable family dynamics, and unique characters.
In the episode Large Brother, Where Fart Thou? Tina gets detention, resulting in the young kids she babysits being home alone. Bob and Linda get stoned with their accountant, resulting in some hilarious moments.
South Park – Medicinal Fried Chicken (Season 14, Episode 3)
South Park is highly popular because it uses sharp, irreverent humor to highlight current events and social issues. The show is known for some wild episodes with references to sex and smoking, but some episodes do give meaningful messages as well.
In the episode Medicinal Fried Chicken, Cartman’s favorite restaurant closes down and is replaced by a medicinal marijuana store. While Randy goes to great lengths to obtain a prescription for pot, Cartman is determined to do whatever it takes to reopen his beloved eatery.
Modern Family – The Party (Season 7, Episode 18)
Modern Family offers a fresh, humorous take on the diverse dynamics of a contemporary family. The show has relatable characters and is popular due to its clever writing and blend of heartwarming and comedic moments.
Modern Familyโs mockumentary style adds a unique touch, making it easy for audiences to connect with the characters and their everyday challenges.
In the episode called The Party, Claire and Gloria go off to the spa for the weekend, Manny and Luke babysit Lily, while Phil and Mitch decide to take cannabis edibles and watch movies. Their response is hilarious when they have to โstop being highโ to deal with an emergency at home.
Friends – The One With The Stoned Guy (Season 1, Episode 15)
Friendsโs relatable characters, witty humor, and portrayal of enduring friendships resonated with a wide audience worldwide.
In the episode โThe One With The Stoned Guyโ, one of Phoebe’s massage clients, Steve, is opening a restaurant that Monica would love to manage. Monica arranges a gourmet cooking demonstration to impress Steve, but he shows up high, turning him into a ravenous eater.
Friends – The One Where Ross Got High (Season 6, Episode 9)
This is another Friends episode where we are treated to a funny weed-related exchange. Monica invites her parents over so Chandler can impress them.
They are under the impression that Chandler smokes pot, but it was their son Ross who smoked pot during their college days and blamed the ‘smellโ on Chandler. Soon everyone knows that it is Ross who was doing weed and everyone starts airing each other’s dirty secrets out in the open!
Family Guy – 420 (Season 7, Episode 12)
Family Guy is well-known for its edgy humor, outrageous characters, and hilarious cutaway gags. It often references weed with jokes and storylines about characters using or talking about marijuana and its legalization, adding to the show’s irreverent style.
In the episode titled 420, Brian is arrested for possession of weed. He campaigns to legalize it and succeeds, but the result is that everyone becomes mellow.
Carter, realizing he is losing money due to Brian’s efforts, recruits Peter to help make pot illegal again. Carter offers to publish one of Brian’s books, and Brian reluctantly agrees to support the reversal. However, with marijuana illegal again, Brian’s books fail to sell.
