And yes, some of the names on this list will probably surprise you. Others likely won’t.
Keep reading for a list of some of the most unexpected celebrities who launched cannabis brands that are actually good additions to the world of marijuana.
Celebrities Who Have Their Own Cannabis Brands
Since this article is about unexpected celebrities who launched cannabis brands, you won’t see some of the most famous ones here, like Snoop Dogg.
That said, not everyone will find all of the following names unexpected. At least to me, some of them were not surprising at all, but I included them, because they do come as a surprise to some.
Bella Thorne
Bella Thorne started smoking weed at a young age. In 2019, she took matters further by starting her own brand of cannabis products called Forbidden Flowers in partnership with the Glass House Group.
Thorne claimed that she wanted to work with cannabis growers to turn it from an โillicit drug into a source of self-empowermentโ. Thorne also said in an interview that she started her โbabyโ Forbidden Flowers not only because cannabis was her passion but because she wanted another source of revenue for herself.
Kristen Bell
Actor Kristen Bell started a brand of CBD beauty products called Happy Dance in 2021. However, the brand discontinued all its products in 2023, just two years after the launch. The brandโs tagline was โIt wonโt get you highโ.
Perhaps that resulted in its downfall, since most people do wish to get high. The parent company has now switched to doing exactly that. They are making adult-only CBD products with actual THC in them.
Wiz Khalifa
Wiz Khalifa is an American rapper and singer who created the Khalifa Kush strain in the 2010s. After keeping it private for himself, he decided to share his stash with others and launched the Khalifa Kush brand with RiverRock Cannabis Company.
Khalifa Kush sells edibles, pre-rolled joints, vapes, flowers, and more in several states, including Arizona, California, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, and Pennsylvania.
Chelsea Handler
Chelsea Handler is an American comedian known for her show Chelsea Lately. She has a massive following on social media and has always been vocal about her cannabis use. She even admitted to smoking toad venom, puffing with Willie Nelson, and getting marijuana facials.
So, it wasnโt surprising when she announced in 2019 that she was launching her cannabis line with NorCal Cannabis Company. Furthermore, the comedienne has partnered with Leisuretown to create a line of low-calorie, low-sugar beverages containing THC and broad-spectrum CBD.
Melissa Etheridge
Melissa Etheridge is a Grammy Award-winning rock musician. She fought breast cancer decades ago, which is also when she discovered the healing benefits of cannabis.
She said in an interview that the drug helped her โrelieve the crazy collateral of chemotherapy.โ Melissa admits to smoking cannabis before she writes her songs, because it helps her get into โthe creative space.โ
Etheridge has always lamented the fact that this wonderful drug once used to be on shelves in pharmacies 80 years ago, but was taken off due to Prohibition. She fearlessly and proudly started promoting cannabis by saying, โI am gay and I use cannabis.โ
In 2011, she partnered with California dispensaries to get a better understanding of the work they do. Soon, she launched her namesake (holistic) cannabis brand, Etheridge Farms.
Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow is not just an Academy Award-winning actress. She is also the co-owner of one of the most successful cannabis brands named Cann. Cann once reported more than $750,000 per month in sales. No other celebrity has come close to Paltrowโs cannabis sales.
Carlos Santana
Carlos Augusto Alves Santana is a Mexican-American rock guitarist. He is known as the pioneer of rock, salsa, and jazz fusion.
In 2020, Santana partnered with California-based Left Coast Ventures to form Mirayo, a sun-grown cannabis line that honors the spiritual and ancient Latin heritage of the plant. The brand is currently available in select Latino-owned retail dispensaries in the Bay Area and Southern California.
Kourtney Kardashian
Kim isnโt the only Kardashian known to use and promote CBD products. Kourtney Kardashian has kept up with her famous sister by launching a CBD-based skincare serum through her brand, Poosh. Kourtneyโs CBD serum offers several beauty benefits, including treating acne-prone skin, fighting inflammation, and reducing dryness and itching.
John Legend
Ten-time Grammy Award winner John Legend is one of the unexpected musicians to enter the cannabis business. In 2019, he partnered with Plus Products Inc., a California-based edibles company.
Their product line consists of THC-free CBD hemp edibles. Legend states that he chose Plus Products because it is an innovative, family-owned business and also because he greatly believes in the benefits of CBD.
Martha Stewart
Martha Stewart – an American businesswoman, writer, and TV personality – has been helping people live better lives for many years. A few years ago, she discovered the benefits of CBD and wanted to share them with her fans. She used flavors from her garden to create tasty CBD gummies and topicals to help with sleep, relaxation, and wellness.
Martha teamed up with Canopy Growth, a company known for its CBD products worldwide. In the U.S., Canopy is a respected hemp company, offering safe and high-quality CBD trusted by millions of customers.
Jaleel Ahmad White

Megan Rapinoe
US soccer superstar Megan Rapinoe first joined Mendi, a cannabis brand, as a board advisor and strategic partner. Later, she announced she had partnered with the women-owned firm. Her sister, Rachel Rapinoe, happens to be Mendiโs CEO.

Margaret Cho
Comedian Margaret Cho is not shy about her support for cannabis. She’s been outspoken on the topic and even starred in an Amazon show centered around marijuana.
