There’s a reason I’m reviewing the Phlizon COB lights and not the Phlizon Newest LED grow lights.
And it’s simple: this series of lights is far better.
Yes, it costs more, but it gives you double the output and a far better spectrum for plants.
So why does every other site review the Phlizon Newest lights only (and rave about them)?
It’s because those lights have far more reviews on Amazon (mainly because they’ve been around longer).
You see, 99.9% of those review sites have never seen a grow light in real life and have no idea how one works. That becomes obvious very quickly, when you see them use sentences like: “this light puts out 2000 watts” (watts are not a measure of output).
But they review lights anyway, because when you click one of the links to go to Amazon and buy the light, they get a commission.
They choose lights with a lot of reviews, because it increases the chances you’ll actually buy the light. And they have no idea what distinguishes one light from another anyway.
Sometimes that means they review lights that are actually good. Sometimes it doesn’t. They don’t really know either way.
In both cases, they tell you the light is amazing. Because they want a commission.
But the Philizon Newest lights are not amazing. They’re ok.
The Phlizon COB series is another matter. They are the best low-budget COB lights currently on the market.
They are very similar to the Optic LED lights, but they cost less and give you more output. Let’s take a closer look at all five of their fixtures.

Phlizon 2000W COB LED Grow Light Features
This review focuses on the 2000 for the specific numbers, but everything written here goes for the 1000 , 1500, 2500, and Phlizon 3000 COB lights as well.
- Uses 451 watts — save about 50% on your electric bill over HID lights
- Equivalent to a 800 watt HID system — but costs less to buy AND to operate
- Ideal spectrum for plants — the perfect light for all stages of growth, with peaks on red and blue and healthy amounts of all other colors (which is what plants need)
- 3.5 by 3.5 foot core coverage — effective coverage for plants with high light requirements; for other plants, it's closer to 4 by 4
- CREE COBs — high quality 50w COB LEDs provide both warm and cool full spectrum white light
- Supplemental Diodes — 10w diodes add the perfect amount of red, blue, UV, IR and white light to the two white COB spectra
- Dual switches — saves money, since you can turn off some of the diodes when you don't need full power
- Rated for 50,000 hours — 4-5 years with no bulb changes
- Great free extras — grow light glasses, thermometer and humidity monitor hangers, and adjustable rope ratchets
Advantages
The two strongest points of the Phlizon COB lights are the high output and the perfect spectrum for plants. The coverage area is also good and I like that they give you a lot of free extras, although not all of them will be useful to everyone.
Output and Coverage
The output on this light is pretty incredible, especially when run at full power. It is about equal to a 800 watt HID system.
Dead center below the light, it gives you a PPFD of 2161 umol/m²s when hanging at 18 inches. That is double what any other so-called (more on the reason for the ‘so-called’ in the disadvantages section below) 2000w light can do.
This light is very similar to the much more expensive Optic 4, in that they both have 4 COBS surrounded by supplemental diodes. But this light costs about half as much and gives you more power.
It also gives you a larger effective coverage area of about 3.8 by 3.8 feet. It only uses 451 watts to provide this coverage and output.
Plus, you don’t have to run it at full power, which saves you money when you don’t need quite as much light intensity.
Power-Saving Switches
This light has two switches: one labeled “veg & bloom on” and one labeled “stronger on”. I like the switches, but hate the labels.
The “veg/bloom” switch toggles the 10w supplementary diodes and the “stronger” switch toggles the COBs. The names of the switches seem to suggest using the 10w diodes for veg and bloom and turning on the COBs only when you want more power.
That’s all backwards.
You’re much better off using the COBs as your base light, since they give you full-spectrum white light very similar to natural sunlight. I would use them during vegging, then turn one all lights during bloom to really boost yields.
That’s if you want to save money, by dialing back the power during vegging.
Personally, I would just run it full blast all the time. Why not take full advantage of the power. It doesn’t consume all that much electricity anyway.
Spectrum
The color spectrum is the other major strength of the Phlizon COB series of lights. Most LED manufacturers would have us believe that plants want only blue and red light, mainly because they want to sell us their blue and red light.
But that is not true.
While plants need more blue and red than any other colors, they also need a good amount of green and yellow light for maximum growth and yields (this article goes into detail on the light requirements of plants).
And that is exactly what the Phlizon Cree COB LED plant lights provide.
They feature 4 COBs: two emit a warm white light with a color temperature of 3000K (contains more red) and the other two emit a cool white light with a color temperature of 6000K (heavier in blue).
The COBs are supplemented by 10w diodes: 68 of them are red (660 and 630 nm), 10 of them are blue (470 nm), 6 are cool white (6500K), 4 are warm white (3000K), 4 are UV, and 4 are IR.
Together, they produce a color spectrum with peaks in the red and blue wavelengths and a good amount of light in between (orange, yellow and green). This is the perfect lights for plants and will take them through every stage of development.
Warranty, Return Policy And Extras
Phlizon give you a 2 year warranty and a 30 day money back guarantee. If you don’t like the light, you can return it. The fixture is rated for 50,000 hours, so you are unlikely to encounter problems during the warranty period.
When you buy this light, you also get a number of extras in addition to the light and the power cord. Included in the package are hangers, adjustable rope ratchets, grow room glasses and a thermometer and humidity meter.
Disadvantages
The only major disadvantage is the same issue I have with all of the Chinese brands: misleading marketing.
Why do they call this a 2000 watt light?
Actually, I know the answer. It’s because every other Chinese brand that sells on Amazon lies about the wattage. They all feel like they have to, or their lights will get ignored.
For some reason, the majority of consumers see high wattage as the measure of a good light, when the best lights are actually the ones that manage to keep the wattage down, while getting the same output.
Wattage does not tell you how much light a fixture emits. It tells you how much power it consumes. Lower wattage means lower operating costs.
Sorry. Wattage rant over. Back to the point.
This light should not be called a 2000w light.
It does not use 2000 watts. Not even close. It uses 451w at full power.
If all the chips were driven at their maximum capacity, it would use 1160 watts. Still a far cry from 2000.
In terms of HID watts, it is equivalent to about 800.
So where does the 2000 figure come from?
Your guess is as good as mine.
All I know is it is very disappointing, because this is one of the best Chinese branded lights I’ve ever seen. It has a great spectrum and equals a 800 watt HID light in output while only using 451 watts.
And it costs very little. Yes, it costs more than the other “2000 watt” lights on the market, but it also gives you double the output of the next best one.
So, please, if anyone from Phlizon (or any other Chinese brands) ever reads my reviews: take this to heart. We do not want to see inflated wattage numbers. It’s actually a huge turn-off. We want lights that deliver high PPFD numbers (even in the corners of the coverage area, not just in the middle).
Phlizon Cree COB Series LED Grow Light Review: Final Verdict
The Phlizon COB lights beat any similar lights in terms of output and spectrum. They do cost a bit more, but the additional power and better results the spectrum will give you more than make up for that difference. It topped both my list of the best 2000w LEDs and of the best COB LEDs.
And even with the higher price, these lights are still priced far below top brands. They are even priced far below the top BUDGET brands, like Optic.
As mentioned, this light is roughly equivalent to the Optic 4, but costs half as much and actually delivers more output!
The 3000 watt Phlizon COB is equivalent to the Optic 6 and the 1000 watt model is equivalent to the Optic 2.
Of course, you need to be aware that you are not getting a 2000 watt light (or 3000 or 1000). You are getting a 451 watt light that is roughly equivalent to 800 HID watts. As long as you know that, you will be very happy with this light.
Personally, the misleading marketing really bothers me. But if you can get past that, you’ll be rewarded.
The Phlizon COB Series 2000w LED grow light (and its 1000w and 1500w little brothers and 2500w and 3000w big brothers) beat any similarly priced light. They also beat many more expensive lights. That’s why they earn a rating of 4.8 out of 5.

I’ve been doing research on these lights and I found your post, much appreciated and on the same page as you with the whole wattage deal, I personally enjoy using 2,-1000w 2 cob instead of the 2k 4 cob I can get a better spread in the 4×4 tent
Steven says
Exactly. I would always prefer several smaller lights to one larger one. Better spread, as you say, and it also means you can hang the lights closer, so you don’t need as much vertical space.
Michael Mack says
People have been getting 1 lb off of a 315 cmh light from sunsystem.
Do you think we could do that with this light?
Also how do you come to the conclusion it is equivalent to an 800 watt hid?
I’m asking because I was thinking about getting these philizon lights 4×2000 watts for my 8×8 tent because the quantum boards with Samsung led are just too damn expensive for the coverage they give.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks
Mike
Steven says
The 800w HID equivalent figure is an estimate based on the PPFD footprint. It may even be slightly less. You should be able to get a pound from one of these lights pretty easily, but it obviously depends on other factors as well. 4 of the 2000w.
4 of the 2000 watt lights should work fine for a 8×8 tent, but I’d probably get the 3000w ones for the extra power. It really depends on budget though. And also if you plan on having an aisle in the middle of the tent.
Michael Mack says
Cheers thanks
I researched those optics a bit. The manufacture claims up to 2 grams a watt off their lights.
Other 1000 watt led lights with only 2 cob lights and rest blurple also claim a 1200 watt hid equivalent but after your review we both know its lies.
I have a 600 watt mh and hps in a 3×3 tent and only a 4″ fan. Fan will have to run 24/7 to keep temp to 25celcius.
My seedlings sprouted 3 weeks ago. I just ordered the phlizon 3000 watt yesterday off Amazon.ca to run in the tent. My seeds were chronic widow (white widows x the chronic) one of ilovegrowingmsrijuana.com highest yeilder
I’m using organic hot soil from stepwell soil.
And reverse osmosis water system with a ph of 6.6 after RO.
And keeping a grow journal on thcfarmer forums.
I will f.i.m and s.c.r.o.g.
Im excited to have some proof of what this lightcan do.
This is my first grow.
2 years of researching…..first time putting into practice.
We will see very soon what a beginner can do with this light you’ve reviewed.
And will drop a link in the future..
Cheers
Mack
DaSofaSurfer says
buyer beware: the w here doesnt stand for watts. its chinese marketing. i.e. the 1000w pulls 245 true watts. Not saying this light is no good. id even say for the price its great. proof is I bought one. just know “watt” you’re buying is all.
Steven says
Exactly. As long as you’re very clear about what you’re getting, these lights are a great value. But if you’re expecting an actual 1000w, 2000w, or 3000w light, you’re going to be very disappointed.

4inch fan not enough for heat in my 2.5×2.5×60
Mike says
Then your ambient intake temperature must be extremely high, or you have a charcoal filter on reducing your cfm or you have to many bends also reducing your cfm.
1x 4″ fan with no filter was enough to cool my tent this summer so I’m not sure what.to tell.you
Steven says
It could also be the location. Do you live in an extremely hot climate?
Either way, if 4 inch isn’t cutting it, you’ll have to upgrade.

Hi
I am trying to choose between bestva reflector series or phlizon cob cree lights both are around the same money to buy per watt & to ship to UK could yo
u please advise which will give better yield & overall better value for money?
kindest regards warren
Steven says
Both are great lights, but I prefer the Phlizon. I think it is the better value, even though it usually costs a bit more (at least in the US).
Michael Mack says
Warren..what Steve meant to say is The philizon 3000 watt has 6 cree cobs (6x cbx 3590 which is a top bin chip) which are a very good cree cob. The 6 cree cobs provide a full spectrum white light.
3 of them are 3k (3kelvin colour) for blooming and 3 of them are 4k (kelvin for vegging)
The bestva reflector series DOES NOT HAVE THESE as far as I can tell.
Blurple colors like the bestva are good for growing quality but your yeild is going to suck because not enough white light like the cobs provide.
The philizon has 6 crees plus the blurple lights so yeilds should be high and good quality resins and terpenes. Hope this helps.
The cri of the sun is 100. The cri of these cobs are 80-90 (very very good)
Go with philizon. Always go with a cree cob blurple board over a straight blurple..theres no contest.
remy says
actually i’ve been in touch with Phlizon and the cobs are not 3590’s, they are CXA 2530 much, much cheaper. I own 2x 2000w cobs and 1x 3000w cob from phlizon and i love them a lot, but i’m considering opening them up and replacing the cobs with some 2540’s or 2550’s if they’ll fit.
some more info. for all their cob models they use 1 driver per cob, each driver has an output of 27-45 VDC at 1300mA. this driver leaves a bit of room for an upgrade for sure. it wouldn’t cost much either to get a few thousand more lumens out of them.
Bill says
The ones of alibaba are cxb3590 and the ones off of amazon are cxa 2530
Noone buys anything of amazon anymore
Amazon top sales day 5 billion
Alibaba top sales day 25+ billion 🤣🤣🤣
And u can buy a cob setup equivalent to the price of any philizon off of alibaba with cxb 3590s or veros for the same price if not less with way better coverage and way better output.
Warren Maxwell says
thank you for that i went with the phlizon 2000w cree as there only £230 & the bestva 2000w reflector is £280 not sure why or how amazon are so cheap buts it relly good for me an amazing light for very little money even a vipar spectra 900 is £250 here. Anyway thank you so much for your review & advise its really helped me through the led mi.efoeld.
ki.dest regards
warren
Steven says
Nice! They seem to be cheaper in the UK, relatively speaking.
Damon says
I am running two 3000-watt versions of this light. What distance would you recommend to the canopy for seedlings, and for flowering crop? LEDs are hard to get the distance exactly right.
Steven says
I know, and it’s also impossible to recommend an exact hanging height, because it depends on so many things.
To start out, I’d hang it around 3.5 feet for the seedlings and 2.5 feet for bloom and then gradually adjust from there, while monitoring the plants closely. Most likely, you will end up with the lights being closer to 3 feet and 2 feet.
William says
Hello Steven,
Great article on grow lights, especially for a newbie. I’m wanting to grow tomatoes and peppers inside in containers. After reading your article I’m going to try the Phlizon 1000
for a 3×3 growing area in the garage with no tent. What height would you recommend to start the grow light? Also any other suggestions would greatly be appreciated, William
Steven says
I’d start it out around 30 inches from the plants and adjust from there. You’ll probably end up a bit closer than that, but it’s always better to start out further away.
William says
Thank you Steven for the quick reply. As I’m new to grow lights, do I keep that distance through the whole growing stage (start to finish)? Also I’m going to run all the lights on through all stages as you stated, if that is still what you recommend. Thank you again William
Michael Mack says
I’m veging 4 plants with the 3000 watt philizon
I tried
Week 1 just cobs
Week 2 all lights
Week 3 just cobs
Week 4 all lights
Week 5 just cobs.
And I didnt notice any explosive growth in veg while they all lights were on.
But if u dont mind the added heat or extra electricity it shouldnt matter much to run them all.
So far I’m happy with the light.
It’s got power. Had to keep mine (3000watt philizon draws 630 watts from the wall)
30 to 33 inches away. The lenses of the cobs are powerful for a small plant and noticed a few burn mark’s on the leaves when I went under 30″
Holly Pretty says
Keep them between 20-24″ for flower.
And 24-32″ for veg depending on plant size
And 30-35″ for germinating seedlings
Also the lights come with a recommended distance from manufacture on philzon.com website or on Amazon that will give you best available par coverage with their product.
Matthew Baynham says
That’s because the cobs basically veto most of the plants ability to absorb blue and Red light. I recommend having your fixture a mere 12 inches away from the canopy for 3hours in the morning using only the 10 watt diodes, then raise to about 33inches away and run the cobs for 11 hours with veg/bloom on for the 11th hour then lower back down to 12″ and use veg/bloom or the 10watt diodes for the last 4 hours, lights out and repeat.
Steven says
As Holly wrote, the manufacturer has recommendations that are basically the distances she provided as well. But every garden and every plant is different. As Michael wrote, his plants showed signs of burning once the lights got closer than 30 inches. But the manufacturer recommends getting as close as 24 inches.
That is why I always recommend hanging them far away (around 30 inches) and adjusting. If the leaves show burning, move the lights back. If not, move them a bit closer and wait a day or so. Keep gradually moving closer until the leaves show signs of burning. Then back off a bit and you’ve found your ideal hanging height.
Rob says
Hey Steven
Thanks for the review. Very informative. I currently have a Phlizon 600w light and now have a 4×4 tent. Should I buy 2 more of the 600w lights and Daisy chain them or would 1 of these lights be better? A little confused. Two more of the 600w would be cheaper to buy so not sure if I should pend the extra to buy this one light?
Steven says
In general, it’s better to have more smaller lights than one larger one. Coverage is more even and you have more flexibility with the placement. I’d get the two 600w lights, since you already have one of them anyway. It makes the most sense.
Jon Stewart says
DONT buy another 600 watt philzon BLURPLE light (unless you like wasting money).
Buy the philizon 2000 or the 3000. That comes with 4 or 6 CREE COBS.
It’s the pure white light from the COBS that increase your yeild not those weak blue and red LEDs.
Maybe read the article again.
And then Google blurple vs cob and you’ll have answered your own question.
Steven’s very informative but theres other information you can research on your own with the help of Google which in turn makes you more intelligent and experience rather than just trusting a stranger’s advice (who you never know could work for philzon or one of these other companies he reviews ) not saying this is the case, but come on man. Think for yourself)
Steven says
Actually, for some reason I had it in my head that you had the smallest COB light from Phlizon (1000w) and I was suggesting getting more of those instead of the larger ones. But I just realized after reading Jon’s comment that you’re talking about the Phlizon Newest Series.
I’m sorry about the bad advice.
I agree with Jon. Don’t get more of those lights. Go with the COB series. Either the so-called 2000w or 3000w.
And I don’t work for Phlizon.

Rob.
Ultraviolet and infrared are good for resins in plants.
But plants need full spectrum for high yeild and quality.
600 watt philizon (will grow quality dope, but yeilds will be small as the spectrum is small and the power is little.
Cheaper means you get what you pay for.
CREE COB LEDs carry a CRI rating of 80-100 depending on which brand of cob it is.
The sun is a CRI of 100
You want to mimic that
The philzon 1,2 or 3000 watt with cobs will give you some great yeilds and resins with the combination of cree cobs and epistar\bridglux led chips.
For a 4×4 tent I’d go with the philizon 3000 watt
Or
Keep your 600 watt and buy a 1000 watt cree cob and put them in the tent together. And rotate them every week maybe.

Hello. I am looking for a good light. I have an aglex 1200 however its only a 300 watt equivalent. im not that impressed with it. at most ill be growing 3 tomato plants in two gallon hydro each. Im wondering which one of these phlizon lights would be best for my setup. my dementions are 2x2x4 ft. I would really only like to have one light. it will be replacing my ag farm plus lights and that aglex light. Thank you and have a blessed week ahead.
Steven says
If you only have 4 feet of vertical space, you wouldn’t want a very powerful light. The Phlizon 1000 will be fine.
Essential oil maker says
I can raise it up much higher. If I bought the 2000 or 3000 watt LED how high will it need to go? It’s in a closet which is about 3ft by 3ft. I learned the aglex 1200 wasn’t enough for one plant let alone two. @300 watt equivalent. I appreciate your help. Blessings to you.
Stevo says
The 3000 watt I
Honestly I’d go with two 1000 watts. You get better coverage because you can space them out.
If one goes down and needs to be warrantied you still have the other
One thing to note is these lights par values kind suck the further they go out.
Great par in the 1-3 square foot range on my 3000 watt but drops significantly at 4 feet of coverage.
The design of the light should of been more square and symmetrical with the cobs on the outsides of the light rather than on the inside since it create hotspots. That said, so far I’m happy with the light. I turned off the blurple lights because I’ve just transplanted my dope plants and they going through a bit of shock so didnt want to stress them even more.
But I found out With just the cobs running my plants are growing half an inch a day. And that’s in organic hotsoil. To be God honest with you I dont think I’ll turn the blurple on till last week or two of veg. The cobs are that powerful.
Those cobs provide such a full spectrum you could do the whole grow with just those if you wanted to.
The philzon is great so far it’s why I bought one.
The fixture is solid and well built.
Dont try taking it apart tho.
Thought I could take a look at what crees they used so I started to dissemble and let.me tell you , they do not want you to pull this light apart. I’m telling you. They cement in screws so if you try to unscrew one it just twists off.
I feel like the company makes a good light just be carefull, they are Chinese. I had to talk to 3 different reps to literally DRAG THE TRUTH OUT OF THEM on what crees they used in their fixtures.
At first they told me cxb 3590 which is one of the if not the best of cree cobs.
The other told me cxa 2540 like the first cree ever used
Found out, they can install the cxb 3590 for almost double the price of the light but all come stock with cxa 2540
So they weren’t technically lying but they weren’t forthcoming either. Chinese companies hide certain things so the general public will buy them but people like me ask them questions that make them squirm. Dont forget. They need to make money off us.
But anyone with a brain and a limited understanding of common knowledge could buy and DIY a cree cob setup for cheaper than Any of these philizon lights and have it perform as good if not better.
But at the end of the day. The philzon is a good light. And I highly suggest having at least one. But look at other options if your handy. Or want to save money.
Steve says
Hi. Thanks for this thread it’s helped a lot.
I’ve taken a 2000w 4 cob light apart to change the cobs. I got it from a guy who had the cobs on and it’s fell on the floor and they burnt the lense..
The Cree chip in these are Cree 2530.
What is a better Cree to improve the lamp?
Thanks in advance.
Tomatoe bill says
The size of your plants or how many doesnt matter to any light.
When you grow in doors, dope, tomatoes, blueberry, your plants overall yield and or size is dependent on how much light it receives.
You can grow one plant or four plants your yeild will yeild based on how much your light gives (bigger light, more power equals more plant, equals more yeild)
Growing dope I get more yeild off 1 monster plant then 4 smaller plants in the exact same space.
A fixture that produced 80,000 lumens will out perform one with 40,000 lumens it dont matter how many plants.you gave
Its why high pressure sodium have been the industry standard. Sure hps is only mostly red light but that dont matter to your plant because its receiving 80,000 lumens daily.
The sheer power of that light no matter what.spectrum it gives will grow your plants.
You ever wondered why commercial tomatoe growers dont grow with metal halide to veg then hps to flower a tomatoe plant………..
It’s because metal halide dont provide the output the hps does. And a tomatoe plant wants power. It could care less if you fed it green or blue.
Steven says
It’s impossible to say exactly how high they need to be, because it depends on too many things. But I’d want enough vertical space that I could hang the light 2 feet away.
Renan says
So if the 2000w is “ideal” for a 4×4 tent, would the 1000w be good enough for a 3×3? can’t really stretch the budget too much atm, so if it isn’t powerfull enough, what would be the ideal size for the tent with this light? Thx for the review
Steven says
It will work fine for a 3×3 tent. More power would be better for optimum results, of course, but that is always the case. If budget allows, the 2000w would be better, but the 1000w is powerful enough for a 3×3 space.
Mack says
The 1000 watt is 220 cad. on Amazon. The 2000 watt is 400.
I would get the 2000 watt. But if you cant afford it now
Buy a 1000 watt now. And another 1000 watt later.
You will have spent 440 total
And can better position your 2×1000 watts for coverage
Oil maker says
Get the 2000 watt light it is closer to 800 watts. My friend has one and says it was a great investment.
Murder says
DO NOT TELL PEOPLE THIS IS EQUIVELANT TO A 800 WATT HID.
An 800 watt hid will grow 1.5-2 lbs OF dried cannabis and FLOWER a 5×5 foot section.
The 2000 watt or the 3000 watt philizon WILL NOT GROW THE SAME YEILD AS AN 800 WATT HID. And will FLOWER a 2×2 to 3×3 foot section.
THE LIGHT COVERAGE DOES NOT SPREAD LIKE AN HID.
Please stop spreading this BAD MISINFORMATION Comparing these lights to HIDS

Was going on a review from the internet. That is what the guy said 800 watt equivalent. Boy some of you are so freaking rude to each other. Please have some manners when speaking to people. Especially if they are new within a community. You just may drive people away period. No one likes being talked down to. It just make you look like a jerk. And women do not like to be snapped at
Thanks
Honest Bobs Car lot says
So you start spreading misinformation based off of one persons review………when you could of hit google, educated yourself, and found page after page explaining the equivelant myths and truths about hid vs led.
THEN when someone calls you out on it you play the gender card. Youur saying women arent equal to men and should be talked to differently from men……this goes against everything your gender has been fighting against for 50 years.
ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW?
The community wouldnt be sad if you left maam.
And im not being rude, im just being honest
Aaron says
I’m good friends with the guy down the grow shop he said to me if he’s being honest hps/hid will always out perform a led he could have sold me a kind led for £1500 I would have needed 4 and was about to pay for them he said neat thing you could do is go for lumatek 600w 400v ballasts and bulbs to match said no led is going to put produce that you will have to have one of these stupid price ones to even compete with that and at the same time upgrade air out to control your heat and you know what it does the job even useing there hoods that can be vented out I’ve been obsessed with led and from what I’ve herd it’s not producing a better yield taste and resin yes but if you are going to go with led go as high powered as you can you want something out of it you got to put in
Anonymous says
I’m not saying you’re wrong. I’m just repeating what an article was telling ppl about the light. But I decided from now on I’ll not bother to answer any questions. Because no matter if someone else said it first , that was the info I went by, I’m wrong for repeating it.
Duh says
Most guys that own grow shops are as misinformed as everyone else and will sell you whatever they want.
Kind led is ok. But 1500 gimme a break. Can pay 500 to 1000 for DIY cob fixture or Quantum board that will blow that kind led out the water
Matt says
“Im friends with the guy down the street”
“From what ive HEARD led arent comparing to hps”
Please just stop. Your understanding of the english language is broken at best. And your friend said this and said that dont mean anything to a real grower.
A 600 watt light and 400volt ballast……..HUH!?!?!?!??!?!?!
Oil rigs and ships use 480 to 600 volt plug ins and their about the size of your head.
Normal growers DO NOT USE 400 VOLT BALLASTS.

First I would like to thank Steven for a great write up, that being said I would like to discuss PAR levels and footprint of lights, 1st all lights have a footprint of light which dead center will always have a higher PAR rating than 1 foot out from center there is a great write up on growace titled PAR rating guide it is a must read. I own a sun system PAR meter and the farther from center you going the PAR levels drop fast period does not matter if its hps or mh or led lights. I have 2 of the 1000w philzon there footprint is exactly the same as 1000w mh and 600w hps so china is really not falsely marketing there power, so here is where it gets fun PAR stands for Photosynthetic Active Radiation this is light that is USABLE by the plant all the rest light the plant will not use, some think more power bigger grows that is not true when in veg stage plants like 400 to 600 PAR and in flowering stage plants like 600 to 900 PAR if you go over a 1000 PAR you need to add co2 or you will put your plants in stress, the air outside has a rating of about 350 co2 but 65 million years ago it was 1600 co2 so you can figure the plants grew like they were on steroids plus the sun which has a PAR rating of 1900 and a footprint the size of the United States so I hope this helps. now all that said I have a 40in x 40in x80in tent with 2 1000w lights you should always get more lights over 1 big light……. my canopy is 40in x 30in across the center PAR is 850 with the lights 20in from canopy and around all 4 corners and edges PAR is 600 this is about good as coverage as I can get, so I have 4 pineapple upside downcake girls flowering right now they are on week 7 and they look sweet about half the hairs are red and in 4 to 5 days I will start flushing with a product called flawless finish I will flush for about 4 days and then harvest stuff works great, as for how much weed will be harvested from this crop about 400 grams it depends on how well you trained your plants, nutes, air flow, humidity, temp and so on, remember cannabis plants like what we like around 77 degrees and 50 percent humidity. these lights are great less heat and plug n play what more can you ask for
Steven says
Thanks for the info. But for the future, if you want people to read your comment, it helps to put some line breaks in, to make it more readable.
Ben says
Great find, lots of useful information here, I’m currently upgrading my tent to a 4×8 from a 3×4. I’m using both a Philzon 900w and a 1200w. I’m wanting to upgrade to the cob serious but I curious would u suggest 2 2000w cobs or 1 3000. I could also use my existing lights if needed.
Steven says
If budget allows, two 2000 watt cobs. They cover the area perfectly and then you can use the existing lights for even more power during flowering. Otherwise, get the 3000w and put it in the middle, with the other two lights on either side.
Aaron says
So what is the output of the 3000 equivalent to
Steven says
About 1000w HID.
Aaron says
Ok thanks would anybod you say this light is better than
Bestva
Viparspectra 1200w
They seem to be the most talked about on here along side this one
Steven says
So many comments the past few days that this one got lost in the shuffle. I think the Phlizon COB lights are much better that the other two. I prefer more white light, with other colors (mainly red and blue) as supplements. Those two lights have mostly red and blue diodes with only a few white ones mixed in.
Bazooka joe says
I wouldnt get a 3000 watt.
Get 2×1000 or 2×2000
The par levels from a 3000 watt is 2500umol/m2s @ 18″ which your plants cannot use unless your supplimenting c02. In fact plants dont use more than 1500 making that 2500 number pointless.
Better to get two smaller ones for even par coverage.
If leaf tempersture of plants is 86 farenheit you will see a 33% increase from 1000 par to 1500 par.
Aaron says
You get plenty of key board warriors,
I was sharing info I got I would love to use led it is at the top of the list for me just the more I research I find there better for taste and resin just not so much on yield as they seem to focus more on a down light rather than a spread that’s why I was comparing to his/hps as most people are using them and want to know if it’s worth changing to hay I’d love to change to them but as of quantity doesn’t look possible unless you buy allot more units to compensate the down light effect
MackMurder says
Keyboard warriors?
Nothing to do with being keyboard warrior in my opinion.
Science is science. Formas rarely change.
It takes scientists, and experienced growers YEARS AND MULTIPLE GROWS to come out with correct answers to educate the world……..but it only takes one “UNEDUCATED” person with one wrong bit of info to SPREAD misinformation like a disease.
You should all have enough decency and honour to have and show respect for the truth and the people worked hard, and dedicated their lives to providing you with real answers.
Not i heard, or i know a guy who said this etc…….anyone with common sense would stop reading the second they see that in a sentance.
Lets stop being offended by whateverone else is saying and whether their delivery is proper or not, maybe it was said for a reason and focus on that.
If you cant sift through a bit of internet negativity at this point in your life………….I mean come on.

MackMurder says
Led lights have nothing to do with taste man.
Taste comes from the medium you grow in, the strain, and the nutrients the plants uptake.
Ultra violet and infared rays stress your plants which helps them produce resins. Literally has nothIng to do with taste.
Come on guys can we not post if were not gonna post facts.
If your worried about taste and resin you need to grow in organic soil using organic compost teas. Then you get your taste, your resins, trichromes, etc…… wouldnt matter what light you used.
You could still run HPS
Also since its the ultra violet and infared that helps with resin production. You can still run an HID light. You can run a 315 watt ceramic metal halide. It has a CRI index of 90-93 which is on par with the very best cobs. Has an extremely balanced spectrum which matches if not outperforms led lights in the same watt class.
And has THE MOST ultraviolet levels out of any lighting technology today.
I dont agree with the previous users way of handling missinformation, getting agressive and what not. But i fully understand their frusteration.
People are posting comments and while they may in the ballpark, their still giving off missinformstion.
Aaron says
I was stating that’s what I was told I never said it was fact no need for people to get on there high horse just say your argument against it and you expect people to take your word even though this is not your page and the fact is how does any one now that that is not miss information end of the day there is allot of sites saying the same information so they all can not be wrong sorry people have to read messages from people with a bad temper just block people if they get nasty I only wanted to see what the defence was against what I was told to see if it was correct or not
MackMuurder says
Nothing to do with a high horse bro.
Do you know why people flush their hydro with straight water the last week of flower??? Its because the chemical nutes they add make their flavour disgusting. Tastes like fertilizer.
People dont flush organic weed because theres no need, the natural fertilizers make the weed taste beautiful.
This isnt an opinion, or an idea, or a theory. THESE ARE FACTS AND COMMON KNOWLEDGE.
You can fact check these in 2 minutes.
You mention all these sites cant be wrong? YOU COULDNT BE MORE WRONG
420expertadviser.com 420expert.com
Budsoflife.org MANY OTHERS spread absolute filth to sell their lights. Even some reputable grow bible sites have old information which is not updated whoch is misinformation in itself. is a review site among MANY OTHERS.
But these sites spread insane amounts of information to get you to click on a link, buy a light, a d they get a commision.
Steve is one of the only people who.gives reviews that are pretty bang on for the most part.
AGAIN tho steven gets a commision when you buy a light off amazon clicking his link.
This said i would trust his reviews over many many many others.
He actually wants to help you get the best light you can tell.
The itnernet is full of these websites that popped up when weed became legal to grow and sell and this led train. People want to make money off you.
So again nothing to do with a high horse but you simply dont know what your talking about. This isnt a disagreement or a different idea. Your just wrong.
Not trying to be a jerk. Im just being honest with you.
Im here to help you guys. I dont care where you spend your money and dont get paid to educate….. j

There are a few comments that read more like personal attacks than a differing of opinions, so I wanted to take a second to address that. This is a general statement. I am not referring to any one comment in particular.
I know sometimes people post information with which you disagree or which is factually incorrect. If that is the case, I urge you to either ignore it altogether, or to voice your disagreement (or point out the factual error) in a polite and respectful manner.
We can all disagree with each other, without resorting to name-calling or other forms of personal attacks.

I wasn’t talking about anything you wrote. Or anyone else specifically. I just noticed a couple of posts were heading in a direction I prefer not to see on my site, so I thought I would say something.
Tomatoe bill says
Im not trying to attack you annonymous but we should try to leave feelings out of it and just use facts.
If you dont know the facts through science and research, maybe its best not to answer with someone elses review.
I had a lighting manufacture tell me samsung lm301h diodes ONLY came in 6500kelvin…….which is false they come in every colour from 2700k to 6500k
The guy has a HUGE COMPANY and manufactures lights in AMERICA for a living. Youd think i could take his word for it………. but even he was extremely misinformed spreading misinformation..
This is what im talking about. 75% of what you read is wrong. No ifs ands or butts. Its up to you to educate yourself so you can help others. When someone askes a question and you answer them with this guy said this….
Were not helping anyone.
Aaron says
Steven no disrespect to the work you put on on this
I put what I was told when I went to the shop grow and went with the info I read from your page I put what I was told to see wether any of it was the case never said it was fact just wanted a review over it thanks
Steven says
No worries, no disrespect taken. I didn’t read your post as you stating a fact. The way I took it, you were repeating something you were told and wanted to see what others thought of it.
Either way, I know that I don’t know everything and that I have certainly been wrong many times in the past and will continue to be wrong many more times in the future.
And when it comes to growing, there isn’t one right way to do things anyway. Many different methods work and get good results and the same is true for many different lights.
For that reason, I welcome any corrections, additions, differences in opinions, questions, etc. They add to my site and make it much more interesting and informative.
Aaron says
💯 I’m still in limbo what to do do you find that you have a smaller yield using led and if you put heat issues aside what would you rather use led or hps
Thanks
Canna billy says
You spend 260 usd on a 315 watt vivosun ceramic metal halide with a Phillip’s 3100k bulb and you grow a pound of cannabis dried with only 315 watts that flowers a 3.5 foot section
Or you spend 440 usd and get a 480 watt kingbrite quantum board with samsung lm301h medium bin diodes with epistar ultraviolet and infared diodes added and you grow the same yeild as a 600 watt hps with less heat, more resin, and more flavour.
Flowers a 4×4 foot section
Problem solved
Aaron says
Do you have a link for them I take it there a specific model thanks
MackMurder says
https://m.alibaba.com/product/62144565646/detail.html?spm=a277m.main.0.0
I bought this exact model. 480 watt uv ir
With the newest most efficient samsung lm301h diodes.
I picked a 3500k colour for the balance.
It’s got trade assurance so.if your not happy with the order in any way you can send it back for full refund within 30days. Shipping from China to canada was less than seven days for me. Ask what they can do about lower customs charges……..
I paid 580. Cad delivered to my door with all customs charges, tax, and shipping.
Everyone on rollitup.org uses these boards from kingbrite off of alibaba. Have had great results. Theres grow journals with them done.
I have the philizon 3000 watt as well. Thing outside off as much heat as a 400 watt hps easy. Sure.itd got heat sinks and fans but all.that does is.transfernhest from the light to the atmosphere. Still have to exhaust the heat.
Any light source weather its 1000 watts led, 1000 watt hid or 1000 watts of T5 fluorescents WILL. EVENTUALLY heat up a room to the same temperature and dont let anyone tell you different.
1 watt equals 3.5 British thermal units
A watt is a watt is a watt. Watts dont care what kind of light your using. It will produce heat in different ways whether its radiated, exhausted or whatever but it till come out roughly the same in the end.
If you get a cobs or quantum boards with heatsinks you still have to transfer the.heat from.them to the atmosphere. When you heat up the atmosphere then what…….you must exhaust.
Aaron says
I know where going abit of topic of Phlizon Steve sorry
I have herd allot about these diy panels but not much info on them I have been looking at them to be fair thanks for the info on the highly appreciated
Steven says
Personally, I would not use HPS anymore. I would only consider CMH or LED. My choice would be LED. If you get good lights and do things right, your yields will be just as good as HPS.
Aaron says
I think I’m gonna go that way to be fair as of running cost and heat
Mackmuurder says
Sorry my mistake Aaron. I posted the v2 with samsung lm301b not lm301h
The 301h diodes are a little bit more expensive but provide more lumens per watt than the b.
Here is the link of the one I bought.
It’s got a potentiometer (something to dial down the watts so you dont have to run at full power. Can adjust to your needs.

Steve, due to size limitations, I have a 24”x 48” tent. I have a Phlizon 1000 of the type you reviewed, with 2 COB lights. I also have a King Plus so-called 1500 (150 dual 5w burple leds). I’m concerned that the long rectangular area of the tent won’t be adequately covered by the Phlizon alone and am wondering if I should add in the King with it, possibly rotating them. Any advice?
Steven says
Yes, you’ll ideally want more light than the Phlizon provides. I’d use them both.
Wally says
Would 2 Phlizon 1000’s be too much for this space?
Steven says
No, 2 would be fine. Better actually than using the King, because they have the same type of light. The King spectrum is different, so some plants would be getting different light than others.
starter says
im looking for a light for my first growroom. it will be around 3.5ftx3.5ft maybe slightly more (higheest poin is around 6.4ft high, following my pointy roof). im looking at several options now and not sure the 2000 phlizon is possible or overkill.
some options i’m looking at:
phlizon 1000 / 2000
Viparspectra TC600 / 1200
after reading alot i tend to lean more to the phlizon’s, but i don’t know wich one would work best for me. can you advise?
Mack says
2x philzon 1000 watts. Better coverage. If one craps out can still use one while waiting for warranty replacement
Steven says
I agree that two smaller lights is preferable to one bigger one. In this case, a 2000 would also cover the area nicely, but I agree with Mack and would go with two of the 1000s. One 1000 would not be enough light, unless you’re just growing lettuce or something like that.
Chayaprat Jaiklangboorana says
Do Philzon grow light has the worldwide garantee? If i buy from Amazon and take it back to my country.
Thanks for the best reviews.
Steven says
My guess would be no, but I would contact them and ask.
Mack says
If philzon dont ship to your country from amazon
Make an account on alibaba. Most alibaba sellers have warranties and trade assurance so the buyer is protected and so is there money.
Heres a link to philzon on alibaba.

Fireman Pete says
Steven, Enjoyed your article a lot. It’s my first grow tent, 4′ x 8′. Hoping to grow 12 indica dominant plants, arranged 2×6, in soil. Among the phlizon lights, what would you recommend?
Steven says
If the grow are is 2×6, I’d get 2 of the 1000w ones. If budget allows, 2 of the 2000w ones might be better, especially if you think your grow area might expand to fill the entire tent.
Fireman Pete says
Thanks, yes I meant my 12 pots will be arranged in a 2 pot by 6 pot configuration, spread out in a 4′ by 8′ tent. I was thinking of 2 x 2000w lights. Just wanted you to confirm since I haven’t tried this before.
Timbo slice says
Hate to say it but if you look at the provided coverage area for their 2000 watt lights you get HUGE par levels dead center but anything past 2.5 feet dropped off tremendously.
The 3000 watt light they carry has 2500 umols in the center and 200 umols at 3 feet out. The best even coverage par levels you can provide for your plants is 500 too 1000 umols and the 2000watt and 3000 watt philzon donnt even come close to that st 3 to 4 feet out. They boast 4 foot coverage in flower but it’s a lie. The physical dimensions of these lights make it physically impossible for them to achieve the coverage they advertise.
No plant can take more than 1500 umols of par unless it’s got c02 anyways. So these 2000 umols and 2500 umols they try to sell you on is a joke. You’ll fry your plants with that kind of power if they too close. Your better off running 4x 1000 watts of these philzon.
Honestly dude if your running a single 4×4 or 3×4 tent it’s a great light but of your trying to outfit more than that look at chinese quantum boards from kingbrite off alibaba. Rollitup.org they use these lights. Have grow journals to back to up.grow diaries.
These philzon will grow great weed..but.the coverage is garbage. Hotspots are garbage. the cree cobs they use are outdated cxa 2540 like the first cree cob available. Theres.just better options out there. You’ll find yourself looking back wondering why you ever bought the thing in the first place.
400 bucks cad for a 2000 watt.
Or 270.00 cad for a vivosun ceramic metal halide and a Phillip’s 4100k bulb 110cad off amazon that’s 380 for a better spectrum, better light, more uv, more ir. Those lights will grow over a pound of weed each and give you way more coverage.
See if Steven’s reviews any of the ceramic metal halide lights on amazon and grab one of those.
jon tuckness says
Not sure if anyone in this is still active, but I have the same set up and wondering if I should go 2 x 2000’s or 3x 1500’s? 4×8 tent looking to do 8-12 pots. I ordered a 1500 and a 5×5 tent then switched my order to a 4×8 so need to add 1-2 more of the cob series. I don’t see anyone talking about the 500,1500 or 2500 models.
Fireman Pete says
Stephen, What do you think?: 2 x 2000w phlizons or 4 x 1000w phlizons for 12 pots arranged in a 2 pot by 6 pot configuration, in a 4′ by 8′ tent.
Steven says
I’d go with 4x 1000w. I always prefer more lights. It makes the coverage more even and gives you more flexibility. Plus, if a light goes down, you lose 25% of your output, not 50%.
Smokey Roberts says
Can anyone offer some information on quantum boards DIY ,i was ready to order 2 3000w for tent but after readin this thread im wondering if i can do better with quantum board set up or should stay with phlizon 3000w?im an engineer but im not widely versed in this half misleading material from the Chinese sellers,,,i dont mind building or constructing,,but i honestly dont know who or wat to trust ,can you steven give me some options anproven results with those pptions?
Steven says
DIY can be great. It just depends on how you value your time. Personally, I prefer a light that I just have to plug in and that’s it. That’s because free time is very hard to come by and the savings from a DIY light aren’t really that great. If I had more time, perhaps I would prefer DIY…
If you like the quantum board lights, take a look at Spider Farmer: http://growlightinfo.com/spider-farmer-sf-led-grow-light-review
Ray Leaf says
For the record I bought the 3000 watt philizon, used for 2 months and now its sitting in a box waiting to be sold so I can buy something else. Coverage is junk. Gets as hot as an HID when on full power. Great light if you dont know theres WAY BETTER OPTIONS.
The philzon was a good buy, it made me do 3months of research to find something worth spending money on. I mean I paid 550 cad. for that 3000, watt philzon. And it was a waste.
I bought this light below instead and some light emitting ceramics. The light emitting ceramic alone smashes that philzon.
The 480 watt chinese quantum board does EVEN BETTER.
[link removed – it did not work]
That link provides all charts, graphs, coverage area, par levels for that light no lies about coverage or hardware. It’s all legit.
I bought this exact light after much research.
Theres a trade assurance program so if your. If your not satisfied in 30 days you can send your light back for a full refund.
It’s a 480 watt, lm301h medium bin samsung diode qb (Samsung’s newest diode) it has included infared and ultra violet diodes for resin production..
It cost me a total 480 usd (580.00 cad delivered to my door, with import charges and shipping to alberta Canada) . It arrived in less than seven days.
Out of 297 reviews on alibaba this seller has earned a 4.9 out of 5 star rating.
Everyone on the cannabis forums uses this chinese supplier kingbrite. Jerry from kingbrite is most trusted seller on Alibaba in the chinese quantum board family. Theres grow journals of these.lights in action.
480 usd for a light that will easily flower a 4×4 area with nice even coverage. I got the 3500k light and my plants love it.
It can be dimmed with the included potential meter. Its plug and play.
If u email me 187bass@gmail.com
I can actually send you pictures of this light on action the monster plant I’m growing with it..
Save yourself some money.
For the price of two philzon 3000 watts or one HLG 480 watt you can get two 480 watt kingbrite fixtures, evenly flower a 4×8 section of a very quality well built board. It’s a no brainer.
Even that amazon light Steven suggested your paying 740 canadian, 200 more than this quantum board from kingbrite.
Do some research on that quantum board you won’t be disappointed. I’m all about saving people money. And I dont get paid if you click one of my links. I just want buyers like myself not to get screwed for once.
Steven says
I had to remove your link. It did not work and whatever formatting you used on it made it extend beyond the page, which resulted in the page not displaying correctly on many computers. But anyone interested can just go search for Kingbrite on Alibaba.
Robert says
Hi Steve,
Do you know the PPFD for height 18-36 inches. This light is strong for the buck but I wish the manufacture were more honest about the information. I’m considering running both veg and stronger all the way through.
Chris says
I’ve been using my Phlizon 1000 for about 2 wks. alongside a MARS Hydro 900 in a 4×5 tent. The plants under the Phlizon are easily 3x the size as the ones under the MARS. There’s no comparison.
I’m running it with both switches on (full light) right through.
It’s early days but I am very impressed so far. Great value for the money. I just ordered a second Phlizon and will replace the MARS for the next grow.
Steven says
I agree, they’re one of the best bargains on the market right now. And most Mars lights really aren’t that great, apart from the new TS and SP series.
Anonymous says
How loud are these units. The video on Amazon says 75dB. That’s stupid loud. Some of the reviews complain it is loud, others do not. I’m going to use these for citrus trees (indoor) and depending on where I leave them it may be in a living area.
Steven says
If noise is an issue, I’d go with a light that doesn’t use fans, like the Spider lights or the Mars TS or SP Series lights. You can find reviews on them here:
Spider: http://growlightinfo.com/spider-farmer-sf-led-grow-light-review/
Mars: http://growlightinfo.com/mars-hydro-review/
Jimmy pip says
1000 watt had 2 fans. 2000 watt has 4 fans. 3000 watt has 6 fans. The 3000 watt is loud a.f.
I wouldnt put it in anything other than a grow tent.
Get yourself a cheap quantum board. ZERO NOISE, more even light distribution.
Steven says
Exactly. The Spider Farmer and Mars lights are both quantum board style lights, even though the Mars does not use Samsung chips.
Beginner says
I recently bought the 2000 after consulting here. Not running my growroom, but i did a little testing. The fans make some noise, but my 480m3 inline fan is making more noise when dimmed. Outside my 3.28ftx3.28ft i actually dont hear the lights. Its 8mm hardboard room. So the noise doesnt travel far..
Steven says
Great info, thank you!
Bill says
I bought the Phlizon 3000 with the cob lights. Seems to work quite well. Two thirds of the way through the first grow, 4 rows of lights went out on one end. Pretty disappointed as they went out right after I switched to flower. Is this common and do you stand behind your lights.
Mack says
Electronics fail. Philizon has a warranty on their lights. Steven does not stand behind lights he doesnt sell or manufacture.
He simply reviews the philzon. You need to talk to Amy in charge of sales or Jessica the manager of phlizon.
Steven says
This is even better. If the seller of the light is no help, use the info Mack gave you and contact Phlizon directly.
COCO PHLIZON says
Thanks Mack for the contact info. Please try to send formal E-mail first, if do not get quick reply, you can also get contact with us through Instagram, facebook.
Steven says
They are not my lights. I have no affiliation with Phlizon.
But Phlizon gives you a warranty. You need to contact whoever you bought them from and get them to repair or replace your light.

Hello there!
I want to build a new grow setup and i am thinking of getting a 5×5 tent.
I am looking into some options regarding LED grow lights for this setup. So far, i am looking into those options :
– MARS HYDRO Pro II CREE 1200W
– Viparspectra Time Control 1350W
– Phlizon CREE COB 3000W
– 2 x Phlizon CREE COB Series 1000W
– 2 x Phlizon CREE COB Series 2000W
I really like the idea of using 2 grow lights instead of just one (better coverage, you still have lights if one unit goes down, etc.).
I was wondering if 2 x Phlizon CREE COB Series 2000W would be too much for a 5×5 tent or, if 2 x Phlizon CREE COB Series 1000W would not be enough. Any any thoughts on this?
Any other recommandations regarding the options that i am looking into?
Thank you very much for your articles on LED grow lights, that’s trully fantastic.
Regards.

To be honest, if you want multiple lights, you’d be best off with 4x Phlizon 1000. Two of the 2000s will give you a rectangular coverage area, which isn’t really useful in a square tent.

Comments on Philizon 3000 Watt with 6 COB LED’s.
Installed in my 3x3x6′ tent with a 4″ exhaust fan (located in basement level of the home.)
I made sure the light is mounted at it’s highest point (LED LIGHTING SURFACE ABOUT 5″ below top of tent.
Therefore I have a good clearance (about 67″ from floor to underside of light fixture.)
My plants are now about 24″ tall and just about to go into flower mode.
Conceivably they could reach double this height (I’ve topped them several times to create “bonsai” style on the 4 plants in 3 gallon pots.) and still have perhaps 19″ to 20″ distance from the light.
Philizon recommends distance of 24-30″ distance from plants.
Temperatures while running all lights with exh fan on lowest setting: 77 F which is near perfect and I run a humidifier to get about 55% RH.
With humidifier off, RH% drops to room ambient…about 30-40%.
During night time when lights are off, exh fan still running, temp drops to about 67F.
I leave one open port at the bottom of tent (approx 6×10″ screened opening and also one 6″diameter opening wide open at bottom of tent.
The tent gets lots of air exchange for sure. Temps are good! Great environment and plants love the light unless they are less than 24″ above. Slight light burn on edges of leaves.
I would suggest perhaps when flowering plants get closer than 24″ or slightly less, I will turn off the BLURPLE LED’S and just operate the 6 COBS.
This is an experiment in the process! Glad my son, who is a well experienced medical grower, has all the know how and experience to lend advice.
If you;re considering a PHILIZON LED COB light for 3×3 x 6′ grow tent, I would suggest either the 2000 or 3000 model.. I decided to “go big or go home” so to speak. Very impressed with the 3000 w model so far.
Seems to be quality and well built. Works like a charm! In just tw0 weeks in veg, the plants have tripled in size!!

I want to exercise my right to grow now in Canada. I have been researching what I need and plan on pulling the trigger this Black Friday. I want a visiosun 5×4 tent with two side chambers for keeping a mom and cloning. Main chamber is 4×4. I’m thinking I should go with 2 2000 Philzon in the main area and maybe a 400 in each of the smaller areas. With a 6in carbon filter fan and a humidifier. Hopefully this all works together so I can vent each chamber, light it all they way I want and give my plants what they need to thrive.
Mack says
No none of that will work. There is so much wrong with what you just said.
If you have 4 plants in a 4×4 with 880 watts of cobs/led from them philzon they will heat up your tent so much that your 6″ fan with filter will be running constantly making your humidifier pointless..
I ran a 3000 watt philzon in a 4×4 tent with a 4″ fan and I couldnt run a filter on it or my tent would overheat ( due to the filter lowering my cubic feet per minute extraction) My 4″ in ran constantly.
You want to run MORE power than i did with a filter your fan will be going constantly whoch means you will never build up humidity which means your fans exhaust your humidifier by being on all day.
These philizons run hot. It’s one if their downfalls. Get two quantum boards instead. Better light coverage. Lower temps. Less exhausting. More humidity.
Also it’s legal in canada. Wtf u need a carbon filter for? You trying to hide the smell of something legal?
You need to do more research. Your not ready to grow. You dont even know how to grow and your talking about having mothers? In a small chamber? Come on dude, Unless your ready to have a crappy harvest and waste your time for the next 4 months. Shoot me an email 187bass@gmail.com, I’ll get you set up with a fool proof plan. Cheap. Effective. I have 2 -2000 phlizon cobs, they WILL NOT grow seedlings on full power! I found out the hard way! At full power from seed to 30days on full power the plants only grew maybe 5 inches! I’ve done this 3 times to be sure with 3 different strains. I’m not sure why, but you need about 3 weeks of growth before using full power & the grow only sucks compared to a 144 mars hydro!! I’m now begging under mars hydro & using phlizons for flower stage!! They are super bright, but overall I’m not sure they do any better than a mars hydro. I’ve been growing autoflowers for 5 years!! I’m a little disappointed in these lights!!
Steven says
You definitely should not be using full power for seedlings. It’s way too bright.
U4real? says
Im speechless right now. Why on earth would u run 800 watts of cobs/blurple at full power on seedlings from seed….not only once…….but 3 different times………..yeah well I guess they grew slow it’s called stressing your plants with WAY TO POWERFUL of light. They get stunted. There is nothing wrong with these lights. Allthough outdated they are very powerful.
You shouldnt be reviewing something negatively when you obviously don’t know what your doing to begin with….. Like come on man. You’ve been growing for 5 years and still don’t know that seedlings dont need alot of light to grow and prefer white light (just the cobs not blurple) would of done a fantastic job on your seedlings. You hit seedlings with IR and UV light which stresses a plant into producing resins in bloom. You using those in veg stressed your little seedlngs and stunted the.
I’ve grown 4 plants with the 3000 watt cobb phlizon with JUST THE COB leds not blurple and my plants exploded with new growth I could barely keep them fed enough. The end resulting bud was also full of crystal and resin. These lights grow some wicked medical…….in the right hands……
Jay. says
Hey Steve, first off thanks for all your write ups! I’ve been reading through many of them and came across this one and the Aglex COB write up and am trying to make a decision. I wanted to ask you, if budget wasn’t an issue what light setup you recommended for a 8x8x7ft grow tent? I was thinking about starting with 4 3000W lights, but now after reading all these comments and other research I’ve done I see that more lights with lower wattage provides better coverage and also the 4 3000w has the potential to burn my plants so I wanted to see what you thought I should go with? I’m open to any suggestions, just trying to get the best coverage and best yield for my meds. Thanks!
Steven says
I would go with 9 of the 2000 or 4 of the 3000. I think I would prefer the smaller lights in this case, mainly due to the height restriction of the tent.
Jay. says
Thanks for responding! Did you mean to say 9 or did you mean 6 of the 2000w? I’m open to either setup, I honestly just want what is going to work best in the current tent I have without the potential of bleaching the plants. It is only 7ft tall so I don’t wanna run into any issues. I was gonna start with 4 – 3000w lights and even add 2 more once I try them out if everything goes well, but that’s why I figured I would ask first. I was now thinking start with 6 of the 2000w or even more if you recommended it? Let me know and thanks again!
Jay says
If you’re gonna spend that kind of cash you’re far better off with quantum boards. Budget Led makes some fantastic boards right in the states. The electric and heat savings is enough to make it the best choice. With a quantum board you can run the power supply outside of the tent cutting down on even more heat.
I own a 3000w a small 2x 2000w phlizon lights and unfortunately they sit in the back room now.
Steven says
I meant 9. That would give you a good amount of light throughout the grow space.
Jay. says
I’m going for the biggest yields by the way. I know a lot of other things play into that, but I want to get the most out of the lights…
Mackaronni says
If money’s no option dont mess with these garbage philizons. The cobs they use are old cba 2530. Garbage. Those were good 5 years ago.
Their not electrically efficient for their output. You dont need all that blurple garbage added. Just wasted electricity.
http://growlightinfo.com/best-ceramic-metal-halide-chm-grow-light/
Get on Steve’s reveiews about ceramic metal halides. Get 4x 315 watt.
If you grew 9 plants per 4×4 square with a 315 watt cmh above each 4×4 you would yeild 4 lbs dry like nobody’s business.
Please do not waste your money on the philizons. Been there. Done that. Garbage. GARBAGE. Garbage. Their heavy their par coverage is garbage. They run hot af. Please dont buy that garbage.
Cmh 315 watt cmh with a Phillip’s 4100k bulb which is top of the line, or a 3100-4100k chinese bulb (xamt on amazon or universelite on alibaba have amazing cmhs at half the price.)
Ceramic metal halides have a colour rating index of 97 which is cash close to the sun as it gets. they produce.ultraviolet and infared spectrum, literally THE BEST SPECTRUMS FROM ANY LIGHT YOU COULD GIVE YOUR PLANTS.
I have grow journals with cmh. I had a philzon. And I sold it a month after receiving it.
Jay says
Thanks for the info man, I’ve been going back and forth for weeks now. I was hoping to see good feedback from these LED’s, but I see so much negative and positive feedback it’s hard to make a decision, but now I leaning back to CMH. I actually have one I got from a friend and my first plan before I looked into the LED’s was to purchase more and run them, but then starting thinking about heat. What do you think about this light? Should I stick with this and just buy more? Thanks again for your time and opinion and device! I’m gonna check out Steve’s write up on CMH also.
Mack says
I grow with the vivosun and the sunsystem cmh. Great lights they really are. But they do produce heat alot of heat with the bulb and the ballast in one package (still less than an hps tho)
If I were you. I would consider buying one of the cmh setups that allows you to detach the ballast from the light and sit it outside your tent or room.
Their not much more and might even be the same price.
That wills bring down the heat considerable.
If you want to ask me some more questions I’d be more than happy to let you bounce ideas off me. I grow with COB, quantum boards, and cmh in the same big space and could tell you each their pros and cons and help you make an informed decision.
You dont want to be switching out and buying and selling lights like I did. It gets costly. Being inexperienced will do that to you at first, you buy what sounds good from reviews and a bit of bro science and when it comes down to it your not happy in the end when you actually learn how to grow and what your plants need.
Strain (genetics) and light is the two MOST IMPORTANT THINGS for big yeilds and quality medicinal with high thc levels.

I used two of the 2000w lights in a 4’x8’x7.5″ high tent, basically one for each 4’x4′ section. I grew indica. The way the lights are strung up makes it difficult to raise the lights close to the ceiling. After several weeks of growing and flowering, I simply ran out of space and the plants and I suffered some. My advice is to do a work around before you start and be able to get the lights closer to your ceiling as your plants grow. The lights worked great by the way.; so thankful for this blog.
Fireman Pete says
Steven, about two years ago you said: “You’re much better off using the COBs as your base light, since they give you full-spectrum white light very similar to natural sunlight. I would use them during vegging, then turn one all lights during bloom to really boost yields. That’s if you want to save money, by dialing back the power during vegging. Personally, I would just run it full blast all the time. Why not take full advantage of the power. It doesn’t consume all that much electricity anyway.” Do you still stand by your advice to simply use full power for all stages, or are there some advantages for going lower power during veg stage?
Sweet Zombie says
It makes zero sense to use full power for veg. Electricity costs money and your plants in vegetative stage can only handle so much light throughout the day.
Theres something called oversaturation. Usually around the 14th hour of my 18 hour lights on schedule my plants start to droop and look wilted as they have had all the light they can handle and use for photosynthesis for the day.
The next morning after 6 hours lights off they are parked right back up with their leaves stretched towards the light as their begging for more.
You always run your lights half power in veg for this reason. And full power in bloom.
So no that’s a silly statement run full power in veg because why not.
You guys need to stop asking Steven so many questions and educate yourself a little more. Steven is reviewing lights for you to buy. Not teaching you how to grow from seed.to harvest.
Steven says
It depends. Most people have less light in their tent than is ideal, so full power during veg makes sense. If you’ve got a ton of light in the tent, full power during veg might not be a good idea.
If you run full power for veg, you’ll want to raise the lights to get a larger coverage area and to reduce the intensity. If you’re using the same tent for veg and flower, a larger coverage area doesn’t really help much. I’d dial back the power and save some money.

Newbie here. I have a 2x2x4 tent. Looking at Phlizon 1000 or Canagrow 100 watt cob. Two plants. Which would be better? Also saw Phlizon also has 1500 w too
Thanks
Steven says
That tent doesn’t really have a lot of height. Not sure you can get the distance you need with COBs to keep from burning the plants, unless you plan on keeping the plants really short.
Otherwise, take a look at fluorescent lights, or quantum style LEDs, like the Spider Farmer 1000: http://growlightinfo.com/spider-farmer-sf-led-grow-light-review/
Both would let you hang the light much closer to the plants than a chip-on-board. But your best bet would be to get a taller tent.
Sticky Pete says
A 4 foot tall tent. …….really? Why… …you need minimum 18″ distant from any light to plant canopy so you dont burn them. Then you need 12-14″ for the height of any container to hold it in. And you need at least 12″ of space from the top of the light to top of the tent with hangers. Leaving you 6″ for your plants to grow. Most indices you can train to stay aroud 24″ but any hybrid or sativa will grow 30-60″
You need to get yourself a minimum 6foot 4inch tent to grow anything.
Unless your prepared to waste your money and time with a 4 foot tall tent. Then by all means go ahead maybe do s bit more research. Hop on a growing forum, where they have threads about grow room design and setup so someone can help you.
You far from ready to be buying lights let alone growing.
John Snow says
Hi Steven & Sticky Pete,
Thanks for chiming in. Not the OP but in a similar boat.
I just started researching and saw that there are a lot of micro builds, with relatively successful yields in very tiny height spaces, (at least for personal consumption)
I am contemplating a small tent too….probably about 100cm(40”) tall, and a Phlizon 1000 to go with it. I did not consider a tent any taller as the taller it gets, the more it would attract attention in a tiny apartment.
Would the short tent really be a waste of effort and time?
Mackaronni says
There’s so many various tents available that are fairly stealth.
If you NEED to go small.
Get yourself a quantum board. Not a philzon cob light.
Chinese boards work great if they have samsung lm301h diodes (the best available) or lm301b diodes (2nd best, older tech) do not spend money on a HLG.
The coverage is unbeatable on a quantum. And the energy savings.
Id also suggest going hydroponic.
If your in a 3×3 tent you could run one bucket and use a screen of green. FIM your plants so they branch out and weave the branches through a net. The DWC with an air stone will give you extremely excelerated growth to fill out a screen in a small tent and make it worth your while not to mention the yeilds you can get from one plant.
If your stuck on soil run 4x 5 gallon pots in a 3×3 tent or even 7 gallon. And again use a screen if you so desire but not nessary as your 4 plants will get your canopy built.
Still have to FIM your plants to keep em short and bushy.
Honestly for the money and trouble of growig your own dope, go as big as your able
But with a 40″ tall tent. That quantum board. LST and FIM training techniques. And one bucket one plant hydroponics with an airstone. Would definately be your best route.

Hi Steven,
Thanks for all the excellent write ups. Enjoyed reading your articles as they appear to be very frank and honest coverage. I learned a lot over a few articles here compared to the countless hours elsewhere on the internet.
Regarding Phlizon, I noticed that on top of the blurple range and the COB range, they seem to have added 2 new lines, which appears to be their interpretation of qb. One is called ‘Dimmable waterproof full spectrum grow light’ and the other is ‘waterproof full spectrum grow light’. The pricing of one of the line is very close to the COB series you reviewed here.
I’m keen to hear your thoughts on them. A full review would be better still!
Cheers

Hi Steve,
Currently picked up 2 2000w cob leds. This will be for a 8×4 tent. Now looking to boost during bloom should I add 2 more 3000w cobs lights or run 4 3000w in bloom and use the 2 x 2000w cobs for a veg tent 8×4.
.thanks
Steven says
A separate veg tent would allow you to grow almost twice as fast, which means almost double the overall yield. If that is an option, do that.
Jessy says
Don’t waste your money on these lights.
The cobs they use are outdated and not energy efficient. They gave HORRIBLE coverage and produce hotspots.
For the price you pay for these lights with their horrible coverage you could spend the same or less on quantum boards that Steve’s reviews with way better coverage and efficiency.
Educate yourself. Research quantum boards that Steve’s reviewed. And save your money

Hello Steven, I enjoyed reading your review of these lights. I’ve looked through all the posts on here hoping to find the answer but no success.
I have just received a 1000W fitting from Amazon, very pleased with the light it’s certainly powerful.
What concerns me is the official timings given on the Phlizon website for all stages of growth. Tines seem very short compared to what I have learned.
“Lighting time setup: Vegetative Stage:10-12 hours on; Flowering Stage:8-10 hours on. Fruiting Stage:7-8 hours on”
The above has been copied/pasted directly from their website.
Seems like they do not want you to use the lights for too long. Any help on this would be appreciated

What unit(s) would you suggest per shelf? Should I go with one 1550 unit (has 3 COB lights) or 2 1000 units (with a total of 4 COB lights?).

My 3 plants are close to transplant into 3 gal cloth containers for veg. I am using Coco Coir as soil.
I’m worried that the light will not cover the outermost parts of the plants not directly under the light when they go into veg and then bloom.
Would putting CFL lights along with the LED light work ok to cover the outer edge of the plants? would this even work or would it ‘confuse’ the plants?
thank you for your time

Hello Steven and friends!
I am looking for lights to grow in a 3x4x6 ft tent
This will be my first indoor grow…
So far deciding between 2x Aglex COB 1200
Or 1x Phlizon COB 2000
The 2x Aglex would provide better coverage
But the 1x Phlizon possibly uses better components
Are these still the best options out?
Leaning toward COB LED lights for simplicity but open to other ideas…
I want to keep the cost for lights under $200
Heat is not really an issue because this will be in an unheated building during mild norcal winter, but would like to be able to use for cloning in summer as well so prefer cooler options
Thank you so much for the great information and I welcome your opinions!

Was looking at Optic till I read your reviews, have one concern with Phlizon COB series, are the COB plug in’s?
Not to hip when turning on full power for flowering, that 3 of the COB’s are cool white which is more of blue light which is not needed for flowing. The 300w has 12 6000K LED’s for veg, so if the COB’s are plug in, I could put in cxb3590 for the other three lights, but if I’m wrong in my thinking, please explain.

These philizon lights are junk and theres so much tech out there that these are outdate crap.. They use garbage cobs. Cxb 2350 series. Old outdated inefficient junk. The fixture is stupid heavy. The fixture and cob and led layout is rectangle not square so it doesnt even have even coverage. It has rectangle coverage. And theres too many diodes and spectrums of shit you dont need.
Buy the mars hydro FC-3000 or the FCE-3000.
50 BUCKS CHEAPER or 50 bucks more than the philizon 3000 watt deoending on if u get the FCE or FC series.
Comes with 5 year warrant. Osram/samsung lm301 b and hlg driver or bridglux with UV and IR diodes depending ob which one you get. Perfectly even coverage simmer from 0 to 100%.
These lights are beast. Mars hydro has really stepped their game up.
I grow with 2 of the FCE4800 and 2 of the FC8000 c02 series.
Beautiful high end lights.

Thanks for the info, I grow hydro and believe COB fixtures would be a little better for penetration with the plants being closer together, I could be wrong, but will look at the Mars.
Or maybe led is basically for grow tents and I should stay with hps, trying to figure all that out.

HI! I’ve been running the 2000w version of this light for a couple grows w autoflowers. Way better than the 2000w Bestva I was previously using! In a predicament at the moment and asking for advice. I’ve been running only the white lights so far, plants have been flowering nicely and only a few weeks away from finishing. Reason for only the whites so far is that w both switches on and closer than about 40 inches height from the tops = light burn and I don’t have any more room to move my light up farther away. Wanting to also include the red/blue spectrum with the veg (should be bloom) switch. I’m on a 20/4 schedule. Wondering if switching to 10hrs whites + 10hrs red/blue would be beneficial or just confuse the plants at this point. Thoughts, suggestions?

You’re right, of course. I was talking about the case of grow lights specifically, where the wattage is used to measure the electricity consumed, not the light’s output.
